Energie Steiermark has opened and started the commercial operation of the first off-site production plant for a green hydrogen facility in Austria.
The project constructed in the municipality of Gabersdorf has an investment of about EUR10.5 million (US$11.48 million). The facility consists of 6000 sq.m. solar collectors, an electrolyzer for the production of green hydrogen, a trailer filling system, and a methanation unit that can generate up to 300 tons of green hydrogen per year.
The initial major customer for the plant is Wolfram Bergbau und Hütten AG, an industrial company owned by the Sandvik Group, which has committed to purchasing approximately 70 tons of green hydrogen annually to fuel its energy operations.
