Austria has installed 1.4 GW solar capacity in 2022. In 2021, the country deployed 740 MW of new PV systems, 341 MW in 2020, and 247 MW in 2019. If the revised projections for 2022 are verified, the country's total PV capacity reached 4.2 GW by the end of December.
The federal government of Austria devised a framework under a new renewable energy law (EAG) to accelerate photovoltaic growth, but much of the responsibility for implementation lies with the federal states. In Lower Austria, for instance, the state government increased the expansion target to 3 GW by 2030 but reduced the space for solar parks larger than 2 hectares.
