BayWa r.e. AG, in collaboration with EVN, has completed the construction of a 24.5 MWp floating solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Grafenwoerth, Lower Austria.
The solar PV system is spread across approximately 14 ha of water surface, located on two disused sand and gravel pit lakes. It has a total of 45,304 solar modules, which are expected to generate approximately 26.7 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power 7,500 Austrian households.
By taking advantage of the sun's energy and leveraging the vast water surface, BayWa r.e. and EVN have realized an innovative and sustainable solution to generate electricity. The solar project is the largest floating PV plant in Austria and Central Europe, and the fourth largest in Europe.
