Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Hexicon have been granted planning permission for the 100 MW Pentland Floating Offshore Wind Farm (PFOWF) project off the coast of Scotland.
The North Planning Committee of the Highland Council had no objections to PFOWF's proposal, which was filed as part of a broader Marine Scotland consultation process. The authorization enables the construction of export cables and an onshore substation at Dounreay, which will connect the project to the national grid.
The 100 MW project, located around 5 miles off the coast of Caithness, will generate enough electricity for approximately 70,000 houses. The project now aims to begin building by the end of 2023, and the wind farm is expected to be completely operational by 2026.
