Centrica has announced its plans to develop a 28 MW battery storage project at the decommissioned Knapton Generating Station in Yorkshire, UK. The company acquired the four-acre site from Third Energy.
The battery system will be developed in phases, with the initial part consisting of a 56 MWh grid-connected battery. According to Centrica, this battery could power 14,000 homes for two hours.
Additionally, Centrica has confirmed that it will investigate the possibility of installing solar panels in the neighborhood, and it will study if Knapton is an appropriate location for hydrogen production off-grid.
