Taiwan’s 495 MW Fengmiao 1 Offshore Wind Farm Hits Major Construction Milestones

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), together with its project partners and contractors, has advanced construction of the 495 MW Fengmiao 1 Offshore Wind Farm by completing key foundation, offshore substation and export cable works off the coast of Taichung, Taiwan.

The project has completed installation of all 99 pin piles, while both export cables have been laid, buried and pulled into the offshore substation. CDWE, a joint venture between DEME and Taiwan’s CSBC, completed installation of the substation structure and foundation using the Green Jade offshore installation vessel. The work included installation of all 99 pin piles and was completed ahead of schedule. 

Meanwhile, Jan De Nul completed the offshore grid connection by pulling the two high-voltage export cables into the offshore substation. The cables, measuring approximately 45 km and 44 km, had previously been installed, buried and protected offshore before the substation was put in place.

Fengmiao 1 is being developed by CIP approximately 36 km off the coast of Taichung City on Taiwan’s west coast. The project will have a capacity of 495 MW, comprising 33 Vestas 15 MW offshore wind turbines installed on three-legged jacket foundations, alongside one offshore substation. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
