Installation of two subsea high-voltage export cables completed for 500 MW Offshore Wind Project in Taiwan

Jan de Nul completed the installation of two subsea high-voltage export cables for the Fengmiao I offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

The Fengmiao I offshore wind farm has a capacity of 500 MW, enough to supply electricity to around half a million households. It forms part of the larger Fengmiao project, which will have a total installed capacity of 1,800 MW. The site is located approximately 35 kilometres off the coast of Taichung. The project plans to install 33 Vestas' new 15 MW wind turbines. Once operational, the wind farm is expected to generate approximately 1.97 billion kWh annually, reducing carbon emissions by 1.176 million tons each year.

During an earlier phase of the project, the company installed and buried the two export cables – measuring 45 and 44 kilometres respectively and weighing more than 8,000 tonnes combined – in the seabed using our trencher PT-1. The final phase of the project has been completed.
