The Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge of Spain has approved the development and operation of X-Elio's 386 MW Lorca solar photovoltaic (PV) project in the region of Murcia following a number of significant modifications, including the reduction of the project's usable area to 381 ha.
During its first year of operation, the EUR270 million (US$267 million) investment is planned to generate 748 MWh of 100% renewable and sustainable energy, sufficient to meet the annual demand of about 215,000 houses, and prevent the release of 148,328 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
The components of the plant have been chosen using the latest commercially available technologies.
