wpd plans to develop a 30 MW solar project at the site of the existing Katuni wind farm in Croatia. The innovative hybrid approach will allow for increased electricity output without adding any extra load to the grid. Together with the existing wind farm's capacity of 34.2 MW, the hybrid facility will have a maximum output of 39 MW, delivering a combined annual output of 125 GWh - enough to cover the average annual consumption of more than 35,000 households.
The EUR30 million (US$32.71 million) project has been under development for three years and has already obtained environmental approval. With the existing grid connection, wpd hopes to secure a building permit later this year and realize the investment by 2024.
Wpd is developing projects of more than 1,500 MW in total in the region.
