Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has awarded a contract to provide subsea balance of plant operations and maintenance (O&M) services to the German Butendiek offshore wind farm.
In the course of a three-year agreement, Acteon will undertake annual inspections of subsea foundations using remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs), along with surveys of inter-array cables and foundation seabed, and corrosion protection assessments encompassing wind turbines and the offshore substation. Simultaneously, UTEC will conduct a seabed survey using echo sounders (MBES) for the inter-array cables and offshore substation/wind turbine scour protection. Additionally, Deepwater's Polatrak Drop Cell – DC II equipment will be employed for the corrosion protection survey.
Situated 32 km off the island of Sylt and 53 km from the German mainland, Butendiek is owned by a consortium comprising CITIC Pacific Limited, Industriens Pensionsforsikring, ITOCHU Corporation, Greencoat Renewables, Octopus Energy Generation, and WPD. The wind farm is equipped with 80 Siemens wind turbines, each boasting a capacity of 3.6 MW. Commencing construction in early 2014, the 288 MW wind farm reached completion in 2015, supplying renewable energy equivalent to the needs of 370,000 households.
