Planning Approval received for 900 MW offshore wind grid transmission line in Germany

The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has issued a planning approval for the 900 MW DolWin4 offshore grid connection in Germany’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the North Sea.

Alongside DolWin4, Amprion will also undertake the implementation of the 900-MW BorWin4 offshore grid connection project. Both power lines are planned to operate nearby and are expected to be operational by 2028. In July 2022, Amprion started onshore construction work for the DolWin4 and BorWin4 offshore grid connections at Norderney Island’s North Beach.

DolWin4 will cover a distance of approximately 215 km, including a segment of about 60 km of submarine cables beneath Norderney Island. In the case of BorWin4, the total route extends to roughly 280 km, with approximately 125 km submerged at sea. The land segments for both DolWin4 and BorWin4 will be executed as underground direct current cables, connecting to the substation in Lingen, where Amprion will integrate them into its transmission network.
