TotalEnergies has acquired Polska Grupa Biogazowa (PGB), Poland's largest biogas producer, as well as a pipeline of 200 MW of solar projects. PGB owns and operates 17 renewable heat and power facilities, with a total production capacity of 166 GWh per year, as well as a development pipeline of 23 projects.
TotalEnergies' acquisition of PGB has boosted the company's biogas production capacity to 1.1 TWh, and it now has a leading position in the growing Polish market for biogas and biomethane production.
In addition, TotalEnergies is entering the Polish solar market with the acquisition of six solar projects with a total capacity of 200 MW, located in northern and western Poland. The first solar farms are expected to come online by 2025.
The acquisition of PGB and the solar projects will enable TotalEnergies to strengthen its position in the Polish energy market and contribute to the country's renewable energy goals. Poland has the fourth-largest potential for biogas and biomethane production in Europe, with an estimated capacity of close to 100 TWh. The country is also investing in solar energy, with the government setting a target of generating 7.8 GW of solar power by 2040.
