Thistle Wind Partners (TWP) has submitted offshore consent plans for the 1 GW Bowdun Offshore Wind Farm to the Scottish Government’s Marine Directorate in northeast Scotland, with the project being developed off the coast of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire.
This major project milestone moves Thistle Wind Partners closer to delivering the Bowdun fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, which is expected to supply 1 GW of renewable electricity to the national grid upon completion — enough to meet the power needs of over 1.2 million homes. The project is also anticipated to create more than 700 jobs across Scotland during the five-year construction period, along with approximately 60 permanent positions for ongoing operations and maintenance activities.
With the offshore consent application now submitted, the entire Bowdun project has entered the determination stage, where both its offshore and onshore components are being reviewed. The onshore planning application had previously been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council in November 2025, marking another important advancement for the development. Since being formed in 2022, TWP has prepared and filed four major consent applications across its ScotWind portfolio, including both offshore and onshore proposals for the Bowdun and Ayre Offshore Wind Farm developments. The milestone reflects the company’s capability to efficiently advance large-scale and strategically important offshore wind projects.
