Rugby Borough Council has approved plans for Enviromena’s 16 MW (AC) Lutterworth Solar Farm. Once in operation, the solar farm is expected to produce enough renewable electricity to supply around 7,800 homes each year, while preventing over 4,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
By producing clean energy locally, the Lutterworth Solar Farm will help cut the UK’s dependence on imported fossil fuels, enhance the stability of both local and national energy systems, and shield households and businesses from fluctuations in global energy prices. In addition, the development will deliver economic benefits to the surrounding community, contributing roughly £2.5 million in business rates over its lifetime and creating employment opportunities for local suppliers and contractors during construction as well as ongoing operations.
The Lutterworth Solar Farm has been planned to achieve significant biodiversity improvements. Existing trees and hedgerows will be preserved and enhanced with additional native planting, helping to create new habitats and strengthen ecological links across the site. The project will not impact any public rights of way. It is intended as a temporary development with a lifespan of up to 40 years, after which the site will be fully decommissioned and restored in accordance with planning conditions. The project will operate without government subsidies and will support Rugby Borough Council in lowering greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with both national targets and local Climate Emergency commitments.
