Enviromena Starts Construction of 68 MWp Longpasture Solar Farm in County Durham

Enviromena has started construction of the 68 MWp Longpasture Solar Farm in County Durham, UK, marking the company’s second-largest UK project to date. Enviromena acquired the project from Bluefield Solar and Lightrock Power in 2025, with energisation targeted for autumn 2027. 

Once operational, the solar farm is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to supply approximately 14,000 homes annually, making it one of the largest operational solar farms in northern England. The project is also designed to deliver ecological enhancements alongside renewable power generation. 

As part of the development, a £100,000 community benefit fund has been launched. Of this, £80,000 will be administered by Point North, the community foundation for County Durham and Tees Valley, through an application process for local organisations. The remaining £20,000 will support smaller grassroots groups, including sports clubs across the North East. 

The project is intended to contribute to the UK's domestic renewable-energy capacity, reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels and strengthen energy security, while providing longer-term benefits to communities around the site.
