Pathfinder Clean Energy (PACE) has secured planning permission for the Lassington Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project, a 40 MW solar and storage development near Gloucester in Gloucestershire, UK. The approval was granted by Tewkesbury Borough Council following consideration by its planning committee, with the project receiving strong support from the farming family whose land hosts the development.

The project is designed to allow renewable energy generation and agricultural activity to operate alongside each other. The land will remain in agricultural use throughout the project’s lifetime, with sheep grazing among the solar panels while the wider farm continues its existing beef enterprise. PACE said lease income from the solar project could provide the farming family with greater financial certainty, enabling investment and diversification of their agricultural operations.

Lassington will also contribute to local and national decarbonisation and energy-security objectives. The project has a planned grid connection before 2030 and is expected to deliver significant Biodiversity Net Gain, supporting Tewkesbury Borough Council’s declared Climate Emergency and its target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
