Sonnedix has begun construction of its largest UK solar PV plant (Cowley Complex) with Ameresco Sunel Energy Ltd in County Durham, UK.
The 120 MW ground-mounted solar PV project is expected to rank among the largest solar installations in the UK when it is completed in Q3 of 2025. The Cowley Complex, situated in County Durham, consists of three interconnected sections with capacities of 60 MW, 43 MW, and 17 MW. Once operational, it is projected to generate about 124,600 MWh of clean electricity each year—sufficient to supply around 35,000 homes—while preventing nearly 48,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
The Cowley facility is under construction by EPC contractor Ameresco Sunel Energy Ltd, supporting the local economy by creating more than 100 green jobs in the region. It is also the first project to utilize the €500 million financing facility secured by Sonnedix in December 2023 to fund its renewable developments across Europe and the UK. This multicurrency loan structure enables the company to streamline the grouping, contracting, and delivery of its renewable energy pipeline with greater efficiency and flexibility.
