Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has signed a Power Sale Agreement (PSA) with the Government of Odisha’s GRIDCO to supply 600 MW of wind energy. This deal is under the XIII Tranche of the ISTS (Inter-state Transmission System) Connected Wind Power Projects Scheme.
Under the scheme, renewable energy-rich states can transmit their surplus energy to states with a shortage, as per the regulations. GRIDCO Odisha will purchase the power generated by the wind energy project, which is expected to produce 600 MW and is likely to be installed by developers from Gujarat, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission has provided in-principle approval for the procurement of wind power.
The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between SECI and project developers is expected to result in commissioning of the project within 24 months from the date of signing. The wind power project's approval is in line with the government's goal of producing 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022, out of which, 60 GW is to be generated through wind. The agreement will help the state of Odisha meet its renewable energy requirements while mitigating carbon emissions.
