The government of Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil has discussed a potential partnership with two European investors to include green hydrogen production in a hybrid wind and solar project. The 1,043.5 MW complex is being developed by local firm Maturati in Areia Branca municipality, and the investors are looking to supply green hydrogen to domestic and international markets. The state government will begin legal procedures to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize the partnership.
The hybrid complex includes a 231 MW wind park and an 812.5 MW solar plant. In addition to this potential partnership, the government of Rio Grande do Norte has signed an MoU with Enerfin do Brasil for a green hydrogen pilot project.
The integration of green hydrogen production into renewable energy projects is seen as a way to further decarbonize the energy system, and Brazil has significant potential for both renewable energy and green hydrogen production due to its abundant natural resources.
