EDF has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Aukera to offtake 100% of the renewable energy generated from a co-located solar and battery storage project in Scotland.
The long-term route-to-market PPA will apply to the electricity produced by Benthead Solar Farm, a new development in North Ayrshire that includes a co-located 31MW battery energy storage system (BESS). The 84.5MW project is projected to generate over 78.4GWh of electricity annually—sufficient to supply power to more than 25,000 homes and avoid approximately 17,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
Scheduled for commissioning in 2026, the site is projected to produce between 705 GWh and 862 GWh of electricity throughout the PPA. EDF will manage the battery operations through its PowerShift platform, leveraging AI-powered real-time trading to optimise grid value and revenue. The Benthead project has secured a 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD), while the PPA will span nine to eleven years, depending on when the battery system is commissioned. Aukera received commercial advisory support from Pexapark for the agreement. The Benthead project is 100% owned by Aukera and will be built as part of a 250MW portfolio.
