Ørsted has awarded a GBP 100,000 (US$ 0.1 million) grant from its Hornsea 3 Legacy Fund to North Norfolk District Council for the development of an eco-learning hub at Holt Country Park. This initiative marks the first major award under the fund's "Inspired by Green" theme, which aims to support sustainable, conservation-focused, and carbon-reducing projects that deliver long-term community benefits.

Scheduled to open in 2027, the eco-learning hub will serve as a dedicated space for environmental education and sustainability initiatives. Key features of the facility include:

  • An indoor learning center constructed with recycled materials, featuring energy-efficient insulation, a living sedum roof, and rainwater harvesting systems.

  • An outdoor gym equipped with human-powered machines capable of generating electricity to charge devices and power lighting.

  • Interactive learning stations are designed to educate visitors on sustainability, environmental impact, and local renewable energy production.

  • Outdoor spaces were developed in collaboration with Park Rangers and local volunteers to promote community involvement and environmental awareness.

The Hornsea 3 Legacy Fund, administered by the national grant-making charity GrantScape, will distribute £7 million over the next ten years, allocating £700,000 annually to support community projects in North Norfolk and East Anglia. Each year, £100,000 is designated for a single Legacy Project that exemplifies long-term environmental benefits.

This funding is part of Ørsted's broader commitment to community engagement and environmental stewardship, complementing the development of the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm. Located 121 km off the Norfolk coast, Hornsea 3 is set to become the world's largest offshore wind farm, with a capacity of 2.9 GW, sufficient to power approximately 3.3 million homes
