Vattenfall has submitted a planning application for its South Kyle 2 wind farm east of Dalmellington, East Ayrshire, in Scotland.
The wind facility will consist of up to 11 wind turbines (earlier the number of turbines was 17) of no more than 200 m tip height, plus battery storage and associated infrastructure. Vattenfall stated that implementing next-generation wind turbines, reaching tip heights of up to 200 meters, will allow the project to enhance its role in supporting national energy security while reducing the overall number of turbines needed.
The project is expected to contribute around GBP460,000 (US$623,990) annually for 40 years to support local communities. Additionally, it will incorporate biodiversity improvements, including tree planting, peatland restoration, and the development of new habitats. Once operational, it will generate enough electricity to power over 80,000 homes.
