Ørsted has exercised a buyback right to acquire the remaining 49.9% ownership interest in the Gunfleet Sands 1 & 2 Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of Essex, England, for approximately £15 million (US$20 million). The Danish renewable energy company currently holds a 50.1% stake in the 172MW facility and will take full ownership following completion of the transaction.
The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and was expected to be completed in November 2026. Ørsted said the move would provide greater flexibility in managing the operational wind farm and evaluating future options, including a potential extension of its operating life.
Operational since 2010, Gunfleet Sands 1 & 2 generates sufficient renewable electricity to supply more than 125,000 UK homes annually. The transaction forms part of Ørsted’s strategy to maximise the performance and long-term value of its existing renewable energy assets.
