Renewable energy developer RES has secured planning approval from Angus Council’s Development Standards Committee for its 49.9MW Bonnyknox Solar Farm at Fallaws Farm, near Arbirlot and Arbroath in Angus, Scotland. The approval allows the project to progress towards construction, which is expected to take approximately 12 months.

The project involves the development of a 49.9MW solar farm at Fallaws Farm in Arbirlot, approximately 5km west of Arbroath in Angus, Scotland. Renewable energy company RES secured planning approval for the scheme from Angus Council’s Development Standards Committee on 26 October 2026. The proposed development is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power approximately 15,000 homes annually, with construction anticipated to take around 12 months.

The development has been designed to combine renewable energy generation with continued agricultural activity, allowing sheep farming to take place alongside solar power production. The scheme also includes landscaping and habitat enhancements, local private water supply upgrades and highway improvements. RES said the project would provide construction investment, opportunities for local businesses and contractors, and a community benefit package that could include its Local Electricity Discount Scheme for eligible nearby properties.
