BOOM Power, the developer behind Drove Lane Solar Farm, has secured planning permission for the 49.99MW solar development on land east of Kenley House Farm, near Wawne, in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council granted planning permission for the project on 16 October 2026, representing a significant milestone following a comprehensive assessment of the proposed development, including its design, landscaping, ecological impacts, flood risk and supporting infrastructure. Lighthouse Property Holdings Ltd successfully managed the planning process on behalf of BOOM Power, the project’s owner and developer. The approved development will feature ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) panels with an installed capacity of 49.99 MW AC, supported by transformer substations, underground cabling, perimeter fencing, CCTV, internal access tracks and associated infrastructure. The scheme also includes landscaping enhancements, biodiversity net gain initiatives and a dedicated area for ecological mitigation.
The planning approval is subject to conditions relating to construction management, drainage, flood risk mitigation, landscaping, biodiversity protection and the eventual decommissioning and restoration of the site. The approved landscaping scheme includes the planting and ongoing maintenance of hedgerows, shrubs and trees to help the solar farm blend into the surrounding landscape. Additional requirements cover construction activities, lighting controls and the safeguarding of ecological features, ensuring these aspects are managed in accordance with the stipulated planning conditions. Flood risk management and drainage have been key factors in shaping the project’s design. The approved scheme incorporates measures to elevate solar arrays and critical infrastructure in designated areas, together with open-mesh perimeter fencing that allows floodwater to flow freely across the floodplain.
Collectively, these provisions establish a framework for addressing the site’s environmental requirements throughout construction, operation and eventual decommissioning and restoration. Having secured planning permission, BOOM Power will now advance Drove Lane Solar Farm through the subsequent stages of development, ensuring compliance with the approved plans and associated planning conditions.
