RWE announced the completion of the sale of its 33.33% ownership stake in the Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm to EDF Power Solutions UK and Ireland. The transaction represents RWE’s withdrawal from its shareholding in the project, while EDF will assume responsibility for leading the project on behalf of the joint venture partners. RWE stated that it would continue to provide short-term support to facilitate the transition to the new ownership arrangement.
The Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm is a renewable energy project planned for the southern North Sea, approximately 40 kilometres off the coasts of Essex and Suffolk in the United Kingdom. The project covers two seabed areas with a combined area of approximately 128 square kilometres and has received development consent from the UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero on 17 December 2025. The approved development allows for the installation of up to 79 offshore wind turbines, with a maximum tip height of 370 metres. Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to meet the equivalent annual electricity needs of approximately one million average UK households.
