PPA signed for 476 MW Offshore wind farm in Germany

Iberdrola has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with the Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH for the 114 MW of the 476 MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm project located in the Baltic Sea, Germany.

The wind farm is currently being constructed about 30 km to the northeast of the island of Rügen. The project features 50 units of offshore V174-9.5 MW wind turbines. The green electricity from the wind turbines will be used to produce green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is a core component for Salzgitter AG to produce virtually carbon-neutral steel. The complex will generate enough energy to supply 475,000 households and save 1.65 million tons of COemissions each year.

The wind farm will be connected to the Lubmin onshore wind farm via two high voltage subsea cables, each measuring 90 km, which will also be installed by 50Hertz.
