Uganda Electricity Transmission Company and the Government of Djibouti have signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with AMEA Power for the a 25 MW solar project with Battery Storage in the Grand Bara area.
The project, situated in Grand Bara south of Djibouti City, will serve as Djibouti's inaugural Solar Independent Power Project (IPP). Developed under a Build-Own-Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model, it will annually generate 55 GWh of clean energy, benefiting over 66,500 individuals. Additionally, the Sovereign Fund of Djibouti (FSD) is set to become a minority shareholder in the project before its financial close, with Electricité de Djibouti as the off-taker.
As part of its strategic plan, the Government of Djibouti aims to reduce CO2 emissions by around 40% by 2030.
