AMEA Power has announced the financial close of the 300MWh utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project located in Egypt. The BESS Project is an extension of AMEA Power’s operational 500MW Solar PV Plant in Aswan Governorate, Egypt, that was commissioned in December 2024.
The 300MWh BESS Project will receive a US$72 million debt package from IFC, which will finance the integration of the project into the operational 500MW Solar PV Plant. The deal was formalized in Cairo on June 15, 2025, in a ceremony attended by senior Egyptian officials and representatives from AMEA and IFC. When operational—anticipated in July 2025—the BESS will supply approximately 100,000 MWh of clean energy annually, enhance peak-demand management, improve grid stability, and reduce CO₂ emissions by around 20,000 tons per year, aligning with Egypt’s emergency renewable energy targets. This project, slated as the first under the country’s 4 GW “Emergency Renewable Energy Program,” underscores Egypt’s commitment to decarbonizing its power sector and expanding renewable integration
