Pacific Energy has commissioned a 42 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project to support the operations of Fortescue Metals Group Ltd in Pilbara, Western Australia.
Pacific Energy was responsible for the design, installation, and commissioning of the project, with Hitachi Energy and Kokam serving as technology providers.
The project will provide power to Fortescue's new Iron Bridge operations and will store energy generated by a neighboring 150 MW solar farm. Its primary role will be to stabilize the grid and supply spinning reserve backup during gas-generating failures or unexpected fluctuations in solar output.
