Pacific Energy has signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Horizon Power to deliver clean energy to the town of Exmouth in Western Australia’s Gascoyne region.
Exmouth's new hybrid system will include a 9.6 MW solar farm, a 49.6 MWh Battery Energy Storage system (BESS), and a 7 MW gas power plant. The combined solar and BESS components are projected to reduce nearly 14,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year throughout the 20-year power purchase agreement. Construction on the renewable energy integration is set to begin in early 2025, with the system expected to be fully operational by late 2026.
Pacific Energy's solution features a BESS that facilitates energy shifting, allowing the town to utilize renewable energy even after sunset. Given that Exmouth is situated in a cyclonic wind region, wind power was not feasible for this project. Therefore, Pacific Energy has integrated an industrial battery optimized to maximize the benefits of solar energy.
