Nucor Corporation has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Sebree Solar LLC, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources LLC, for 250 MW of renewable energy from the 400 MW Sebree Solar project, a two-phase solar farm in Kentucky, USA. The first phase, Sebree Solar I, is set to begin construction in Fall 2023.
Nucor Corporation will supply steel for the project from its subsidiary, Nucor Steel Gallatin, based in Ghent, Kentucky. The steel will be used for the racking systems that support the solar panels.
The Sebree Solar I project's construction and operation will have a positive economic impact on Henderson County, Kentucky. Over its 30-year lifespan, the project is expected to contribute approximately US$20 million in additional tax revenue to the county. This tax revenue can be used for public services such as roads and schools.
The project is expected to begin commercial operation in December 2025.
