Notice issued for the construction of 300 MW energy storage at a Solar Complex in USA

The United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has issued a notice to proceed to NextEra's plan to construct a 300 MW of extra energy storage capacity to Desert Sunlight Solar complex in California, USA.

Currently, the complex produces 550 MW of solar power and has 230 MW of energy storage capacity. It is located on approximately 3,600 ac of land managed by the US Bureau of Land Management in Riverside County. The project is delivering significant environmental benefits, including displacing approximately 300,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, equal to removing more than 60,000 cars from the road.

The battery system is being developed by a subsidiary of NextEra and will be placed within the existing fence line of the solar farm. The entire complex covers a total land area of 16 sq km of creosote bush-dominated desert habitat center near Desert Center next to Joshua Tree National Park.

The energy storage project is expected to improve the reliability of the state power grid and will also support the government's goal to develop clean energy on public lands and achieve carbon-free electricity throughout the US by 2035.
