PPA signed for 117 MW Solar PV project in USA

EDF Renewables North America has signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) for the 117 MWac/148 MWdc Sapphire solar project located in Riverside County on private land, USA.

Under the agreement, Sapphire Solar will supply 117 MWac of solar capacity and a 59 MWac/236 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to to Anaheim, Pasadena, and Vernon, which are members of SCPPA. The delivery of the power is guaranteed to start by December 31, 2026. The project will generate 375,800 MWh of clean energy annually, enough to meet the consumption of over 58,000 average California homes. This is equivalent to avoiding over 266,000 metric tons of carbon (CO₂) emissions annually which represents the greenhouse gas emissions from over 57,000 passenger vehicles driven over the course of one year. More than US$253 million generated in new tax revenue over the operating life of the project is expected, along with the creation of approximately 250 jobs during the construction phase.

The Sapphire Solar project has major significance in terms of contributing to California's goal of becoming carbon-free by the year 2045. It is also significant that sustainable energy solutions like this are on the rise with major corporations committing to these initiatives.
