Toyota Motor North America Inc. has signed a power purchase agreement with Savion for the 100 MW of electricity to be generated by Martin County Solar Project in kentucky, USA.
The US$231 million solar project will power up to 33,000 local homes. It is developed on approximately 1,200 ac on the old Martiki mine site and connected to Kentucky Power’s 138-kilovolt Inez Substation.
Toyota's purchase of the electricity generated from the project will help reduce the company's carbon footprint in North America. The automaker's move is consistent with its commitment to make all its operations in North America carbon-neutral by 2035.
Development partner Edelen Renewables is collaborating with Savion to develop the Martin County Solar Project. Construction of the project will begin in mid-2023 and is slated for commercial operation in 2024.
