NTR has announced deploying two battery energy storage systems with a combined capacity of 25 MW in County Wexford, Ireland. The Gorey system, with a capacity of 9 MW, and the Avonbeg facility, with a capacity of 16 MW, will provide Delivering Secure, Sustainable Electricity System (DS3) services to Ireland’s transmission system operator, EirGrid. The DS3 program aims to facilitate the integration of renewable energy resources into the Irish grid.
The Gorey battery became a part of the DS3 market in April 2022, while the Avonbeg facility attained DS3 qualification and testing, and will join the market this month, according to NTR. The batteries will generate revenue mainly by providing frequency stability through the DS3 system. The company also stated that the batteries had obtained capacity market contracts.
Not only will these battery systems provide DS3 services to the Irish transmission system operator, but they will also contribute to the growth of renewable energy resources.
