RWE has disclosed its full plan for delivering future growth of the offshore wind sector around the Celtic Sea region. Considering it as the future of the industry, the company views the potential of floating offshore wind to unlock a billion-pound opportunity for the region and greater UK. The company plans to secure at least 1 GW of installed capacity in the leasing round of this year, in its efforts to spearhead floating wind and innovate the sector further.
Reports suggest that such ambitious plans could potentially deliver economic benefits for Wales, outlined as around 3000 jobs and GBP682 million (US$837 million) in supply chain potential. Along with benefiting the supply chain and communities, the technology is predicted to trigger the growth of innovative and skilled workforce, decarbonisation of industries, and a surge in Welsh industry.
RWE is expected to work collaboratively with governments, businesses, industries, and academia to deliver these plans, leveraging its experience in the offshore wind sector. It has already established partnerships with Port Talbot, the Port of Milford Haven and Marine Power Systems of Swansea to identify supply chain opportunities.
