RWE has extended the public consultation period for its Dublin Array offshore wind project. The project is proposed to be built on the Kish and Bray Banks, located 10 km from the coastline of Dublin and Wicklow counties, with 39 to 50 turbines that will produce 700 MW to 850 MW of renewable electricity. RWE held seven in-person public consultation events across five locations in Dublin and Wicklow in the past seven weeks, and the consultation period has been extended to 31 March, with an additional event added on 29 March at the Marine Hotel in Sutton, County Dublin.
Peter Lefroy, Head of Offshore Development Ireland at RWE, expressed his satisfaction with extending the consultation period, giving local residents more time to access up-to-date information on the Dublin Array project, including a visualization tool. He added that Dublin Array is a crucial project in Ireland's transition towards a low-carbon energy system, and RWE looks forward to continuing engagement with local communities.
The Irish government's target is to generate 70% of electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030. The consultation period extension provides an opportunity for RWE to discuss the project further with stakeholders and incorporate feedback into the project's design.
