Wrightbus, in partnership with Hygen Energy, has announced their plans to construct a multimillion-pound green hydrogen production project in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. If approved, the plant will be capable of producing enough clean energy to power 300 hydrogen-powered buses daily.
Green hydrogen is a completely renewable fuel source, hence it produces no carbon emissions. The process of electrolysis is used to separate oxygen and hydrogen from water using renewable energy. The hydrogen can then be used on-site or transported to its destination.
Wrightbus has been a leader in the shift towards clean hydrogen, having deployed the world's first fleet of hydrogen-powered double-decker buses in 2020. This new facility is a major step forward in its mission to reduce emissions and create a more sustainable future.
