Kelag Energie & Waerme GmbH, an Austrian district heating company, has announced plans to develop a 15-20 GWh biomass power plant in the western state of Vorarlberg in Austria.
In the medium term, the plant is expected to produce between 15 and 20 GWh of heat from the biomass in the municipality of Lustenau, which covers between 100 and 200 buildings in the region via a 12-km (7.45-mile) network. The plant will allow to avoid around 3,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
The biomass power plant and district heating network are expected to be finished in the spring of 2024 and commissioned in the autumn of the same year. Kelag Energie & Waerme plants to invest EUR10-15 million (US$10.7-16 million) into the project.
