Lunzua Power Company Limited and Valinor Investments Limited have commenced construction of a 10 MW solar power plant in Mwandi District, Western Province, Zambia, with SANY International (Zambia) Industrial Company Limited serving as the construction contractor.

The project involves the development of a US$8 million solar power plant in Mwandi District, Western Province, Zambia, which is expected to add 10 MW of electricity to the national grid and enhance regional power supply. The solar photovoltaic facility is being developed across approximately 40 hectares in the Mwilima area and will have an installed capacity of 11 MWp (10 MWac). Once operational, the plant is expected to generate around 22 GWh of electricity annually. The project is being jointly developed by Lunzua Power Company Limited and Valinor Investments Limited, with the generated electricity to be delivered to the national grid through a dedicated evacuation line being developed as part of the project.

The overall project cost, including the associated evacuation infrastructure, is being financed through a 30:70 equity-to-debt financing structure. Construction is being undertaken by SANY International (Zambia) Industrial Company Limited and is scheduled for completion within six months.

Upon commissioning, the solar facility is expected to generate sufficient electricity to meet the annual power needs of approximately 4,600 households. The project will also help address Zambia’s electricity deficit by adding new renewable energy generation capacity to the national grid. The project was initiated following feasibility studies that confirmed the area’s potential for solar power generation. It is expected to contribute to Zambia’s expansion of renewable energy capacity, enhance the reliability of electricity supply, and reduce the country’s reliance on conventional sources of power.
