Hidroelectrica has partnered with Masdar to establish a joint venture for developing offshore wind and floating solar projects in Romania. The collaboration between Hidroelectrica and Masdar has the potential to revolutionize the pace of development and size of investments in Romania, according to Bogdan Badea, Chairman of Hidroelectrica’s Management Board.
Hidroelectrica currently operates 187 hydropower plants in Romania, with a combined capacity of 6.3 GW, and the 108 MW Crucea onshore wind park. However, the company did not provide any further information about the planned joint investments. Masdar has extensive experience in the development and construction of renewable energy capacities and its financial strength, combined with Hidroelectrica's local expertise and resources, makes for a strong partnership.
The joint venture between Hidroelectrica and Masdar aligns with Romania's plans to increase its renewable energy capacity. The country aims to have 30.7% of its energy generated from renewable sources by 2030. The offshore wind and floating solar projects will contribute towards achieving this goal, while also boosting the economy and creating new jobs in Romania's energy sector.
