RWE and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC –Masdar have engaged TGS and Fugro to conduct detailed seabed geophysical and geotechnical surveys for the eastern array of the proposed Dogger Bank South (DBS) offshore wind farms, located over 122 km off the northeast coast of England.
Survey Operations:
TGS: Commenced geophysical surveys in April 2025, acquiring ultra-high-resolution 3D seismic data to assess the subsea terrain at turbine locations. This data is essential for minimizing geohazards and ensuring safe and efficient project execution.
Fugro: Set to begin geotechnical surveys in May 2025, focusing on ground conditions beneath the seabed at the proposed sites of 100 wind turbines, inter-array cable routes, and platform foundations. Techniques include cone penetration tests (CPTs), vibrocores, and sampling boreholes.
The DBS project comprises two offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 3 GW, potentially supplying electricity to approximately three million UK homes. RWE leads the development, construction, and operations of both projects on behalf of partners RWE and Masdar.
