HEXA Renewables backed by global infrastructure fund I Squared Capital, has teamed up with the Taiwan government's offshore solar division and completed the commissioning of the 440 MW offshore floating solar power plant that spans four plots totaling 347 ha located in Changhua County in Taiwan.

The project’s first phase, comprising two plots with an 181 MWac capacity, was developed by Chenya Energy, a former subsidiary of I Squared Capital, in 2020. Work on the expansion—called Changbin No. 3 and No. 4—started in October 2022, covering 171 hectares of water. By October 2023, the extension added 192.3 MW. It incorporates a specialized New Pillar Anchoring Solution, which uses concrete pillars and an H-beam system, designed to withstand twice-daily tidal shifts and occasional typhoons, optimizing stability in near-shore conditions. After Chenya's divestment that year, HEXA advanced the project’s second phase in partnership with the Taiwanese government, adding 192 MWac. Together, this brings the total capacity to 373 MWac. This project offsets 136,000 CO2 emissions annually and can supply renewable energy to approximately 74,000 households in Taiwan.

Hexa finalized the project extension in February 2024, in partnership with French floating PV solutions provider Ciel & Terre.
