Hydrogène de France (HDF Energy) has signed an MOU with the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) for the construction of its Middle Sabi Renewstable green hydrogen power plant. The project will be located in Zimbabwe's Chipinge District, Manicaland Province, with an annual production of 178 GWh of green power. It will use a decentralized grid model, providing renewable energy closer to population centers and reducing transmission losses.
The Power Purchase Agreement will be used to commercialize the electricity and grid services generated by the plant, while the development of technical green hydrogen skills in Zimbabwe will be kick-started.
This project is in line with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and Vision 2030 of the Zimbabwe Government, striving to contribute meaningfully to GDP growth in Manicaland. The project highlights the significant benefits of green hydrogen production and storage, which could assist developing regions like Africa to introduce sustainable, clean energy that could efficiently drive economic growth and create meaningful employment opportunities.
