Engie Latam SA, a unit of French energy group Engie SA, has submitted the environmental impact statements (EIS) for its proposed HyEx - Green Hydrogen Production project in the state of Antofagasta, Chile.
The proposed project can generate up to 18,000 tons of ammonia using atmospheric air and hydrogen. Engie is expected to invest about US$47 million in the project. The facility will have an installed capacity of 26 MW to produce green hydrogen from a water electrolysis system powered by renewable energy.
The produced ammonia will be sent to Enaex's plant in Mejillones city to produce ammonium nitrate. Enaex is a subsidiary of Sigdo Koppers group that produces ammonium nitrate and explosives for mining. The HyEx - Green Hydrogen Production project is expected to be operational by 2025.
