Ocean Winds (OW), the international company dedicated to offshore wind energy and a joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE, announces the successful installation of the first floating wind turbine of its Éoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL) project, in the Mediterranean Sea off Occitanie, France, developed in partnership with Banque des Territoires.
This 10 MW Vestas V164 turbine—currently the most powerful ever deployed in France—was assembled at Port‑La Nouvelle and towed 16 km offshore to its installation site offshore Leucate and Barcarès. It is the first of three turbines scheduled to be deployed by the end of August 2025 as part of the 30 MW EFGL pilot wind farm, which will be anchored by nine mooring lines and generate enough clean energy to supply approximately 50,000 homes.
