The National Electric Coordinator has authorized Enel Chile to commence commercial operations at the 60.9 MW Azabache Solar Project in the Antofagasta region, Chile.
The Azabache project is located in the Valle de los Vientos wind farm, where the distance between the windmills provides enough space for a solar power park. By integrating Azabache into the National Electric System, this hybrid complex will be able to generate energy all day, with a peak between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m., and in the case of Valle de los Vientos, the peak will likewise occur in the afternoon when the wind comes up.
The Azabache solar power plant contains approximately 154,170 two-sided solar panels, that enable the solar plant to capture solar radiation on both sides.
