VINCI Airports and Groupe ADP, the concessionaires of the Arturo Merino Benítez Airport in Santiago de Chile, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a group of energy companies comprising Air Liquide, Copec and Colbún to work on a plan to include hydrogen in the operation of the airport.

Air Liquide will lead the study's development, working closely with the airport. In addition, the company will develop and run an electrolyzer for green hydrogen production, as well as the associated hydrogen supply chain, using its hydrogen production and distribution capabilities. Colbun will contribute to the project with its renewable energy expertise. Copec will provide its knowledge in fuel storage and delivery systems, as well as a projection of hydrogen demand for the airport.

This effort will help the airport in Santiago de Chile to reach its target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
