Enel Green Power has commenced the installation of turbines at the 75.6 MW Flat Rocks Wind Farm Stage 1 in Western Australia. The project aims to provide power to the local nickel operations of BHP Group Plc. The wind park, which will consist of 18 turbines, is anticipated to be fully operational by early 2024. This development aligns with Enel Green Power's commitment to investing in renewable energy projects worldwide.
Once operational, the Flat Rocks Wind Farm Stage 1 is expected to generate approximately 315 GWh of electricity annually. The wind farm's electricity generation will cover the entirety of BHP's Kalgoorlie nickel smelter and Kambalda concentrator's electricity consumption. To ensure a steady supply of clean energy, Enel Green Power and BHP have agreed upon a 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA) that was signed in April 2022.
Enel SpA will oversee the construction and investment of the project. The company's renewable energy business is responsible for pouring the concrete foundations for the Vestas V150-4.2 MW turbines, which are part of the wind farm's infrastructure.
